Pizza, Pot Belly Pigs, & A Whole Lota' Mud

Each year thousands of eager West Virginians descend on a large field in Jackson county for the annual "Jackson County Jr. Fair". I anxiously look forward to this event for many reasons. Perhaps the most important reason is, I have been going every year for a long time with my family and it is something we look forward to attending. There are plenty of activities for the kids (amusement rides, petting farms, cotton candy, bungy bouncing, just to name a few). But perhaps my favorite part of the fair, and my oldest son's as well, is the annual "Mud Bog". Guys and gals from around the state show up to test themselves in the deep mud trench that rests in the middle of a huge field. One by one they drive their trucks, jeeps, bronco's and whatever else they have through the long stretch of chest high mud. It is so much fun to watch; especually after the sun sets and the lights come on.

This year was so much fun. My oldest son, Ridge, is getting big enough to really enjoy himself at these types of events. And Guner, well, he has fun no matter where he is. The petting farm was a huge hit. It was fun to watch their faces light up as they fed all sorts of different animals. With little laughs and giggles they would run back to Mommy as the animals chased them to get just one more bite of food. It was really adorable.

The amusement rides provided plenty of excitement as well. This time, both of my boys got to ride them together; which was really nice to watch. Last year Guner was just to small. They are growing up so fast that I don't even like to think about it.

After riding every ride at least twice, it was time to grab a pizza and head down to the track for the "Mud Bog". The crowd was huge and the action was very entertaining. Some trucks really put on a show, while others were not so lucky. The size of the pit is hard to describe. But, trust me, it could swallow a normal sized truck.

With the festivities still going strong well past mid-night, it was time to gather up the tribe and head for home. With little bellies full of pizza, we loaded up and headed south. The only down-side to the whole evening was the fact that I would have to wait another year before doing it all over again.
